Miley cruises the streets in her ripped tights and oversized "sleeping" t-shirt, portraying a disingenuous mistake. She is depiciting today's fashion of incorporating mistakes into your wardrobe, and looking like you just got out of bed, even though this look probably took thought and time to achieve, and is not as effortless as is appears to be. Obviously..noting the royal blue purse and matching fringe boots, and then again in her holey t-shirt. She probably did not truly achieve those rips and holes by falling down, contrasting just a missing button or mismatched socks (Davis, 66) of the true mistakes in fashion. As Nino Cerruti would say, "There is nothing less elegant than to be too elegant," except maybe this outfit.

Girls Will Be Boys
Rihanna is bending her gender in this classic black suit, crisp white shirt and bow tie. Suits are typically worn by working men, showing their masculinity in the office. This suit depicts that Rihanna is pursuing her career. In many cases, masculinity is equal to power. Rihanna could be trying to achieve the notion that she is powerful and independent, especially after her traumatic situation with Chris Brown. Her tie, one of the most significant forms of androgynous dress, is an expression of independence (Crane, 102). Western women seek acceptance, equality and authority in formally all-male or nearly all-male reserves (Davis, 46). Short hair also contributes to the anti-femininity of her attire. It reflects her aspirations to be the "bread winner" and literally wear the pants."A girl should be a tomboy during the tomboy age, and the more tomboy she is the better." (Joseph Lee)
Rich Dressing Down
Dressed in a wool frock, long skirt, and combat boots, Taylor Momsen is a classic example of “the rich dressing poor” phenomenon. The sweater she is wearing depicts that of a homeless person, something that they would wear to keep warm in the wintertime. Her long skirt reflects what a working class woman would wear, such as a servant. Although she is wearing deep, red lipstick an item that is linked to looking sexy, her clothing completely overtakes the accessory and she looks far from that. Her bowler hat portrays her as working class. But the question is, why dress like a homeless woman? Its obvious why the lower class would dress rich, people are constantly trying to improve their status. Taylor could be dressing down possibly because this way of dressing is simply in style at the moment, and because Taylor is famous she needs to dress "fashionable"- not that her outfit is. Or it could be because she doesn’t want her identity to be achieved through the amount of money she makes and her fame: break free of the wealthy stereotype. She could also just be rebelling and depicting an anti-fashion. XOXO you're outfit goodbye, Little J.
